A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING, COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MICHAEL DENNIS MCFADDEN OF CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS MANY OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC, SCOUTING, CHURCH AND CIVIC-MINDED ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS.

WHEREAS, Michael Dennis McFadden was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on September 29, 1983. His parents are Dennis and Jacqueline McFadden, and he has one brother, Robert McFadden; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, Michael became a member of and excelled in Cub Scout Pack 99, sponsored by Oakhurst Baptist Church, Clarksdale, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Michael became a member of and continues to serve in Boy Scout Troop 99, Chickasaw Council Number 558, sponsored by Oakhurst Baptist Church, Clarksdale, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, on September 8, 1997, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Bill Knight, Jr., and Assistant Scoutmasters John Stubbs, David Smith and Roosevelt Greenwood, Michael attained the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Michael is currently a 9th Grade Honor Student (Honor Roll: 1997, 1998 and 1999) at Oakhurst Junior High School, Clarksdale, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Michael has many other outstanding accomplishments and achievements in school and as a member of and/or participant in other groups and organizations including, but not limited to, the following: Chapter Sergeant-At-Arms, Technology Student Association, 1999; Student Council, 1997-Present; Who's Who Among American High School Students, 1999; Catholic Youth Organization Officer, 1999, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church; Ducks Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited Tree-Planting Project, 1999; Chapter Vice-Chief and Brotherhood Member, Order of the Arrow, 1999; and member of National Eagle Scout Association; and

WHEREAS, Michael and his brother, Robert, served as Pages in the Mississippi State Senate, March 22-26, 1999, sponsored by State Senator Delma Furniss; and

WHEREAS, as an Eagle Scout, Michael is presently working on one of Scouting's most prestigious and challenging awards, the William T. Hornaday Award for Distinguished Service to National Resource Conservation; and

WHEREAS, in pursuing the Hornaday Award, Michael has actively lobbied the 1999 Mississippi Legislature (by letters, telephone calls and in person) for passage of Senate Bill No. 2708 and House Bill No. 617, 1999 Regular Session, which, if passed, will provide $2 Million and $1 Million, respectively, for reforestation purposes in Mississippi (and also supports amendments to Senate Bill No. 2573 and House Bill No. 1528, 1999 Regular Session, for funding for reforestation purposes); and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate of the State of Mississippi to recognize and honor the accomplishments and achievements of citizens of this state, and especially the accomplishments and achievements of our youth who will soon be the leaders of our communities, state and nation:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Michael Dennis McFadden for his many outstanding academic, scouting, church and civic-minded accomplishments and achievements and wish him well in his present and future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Senator Delma Furniss is hereby designated to represent this body in presenting this resolution to Michael Dennis McFadden and to Boy Scout Troop 99.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to The Clarksdale Press Register and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
